Pellets offer cheaper heating option in Zabaikalsky Krai

For almost two weeks in Chita, the temperature has consistently been below 35°C (95°F). This is particularly acute for those who need to heat their homes independently. The first problem was how sharply and noticeably the prices for firewood and coal have risen. The second was how the shortage of this fuel has hit the wallets of Zabaikal residents.

Therefore, many first switched to briquettes, then to pellets. Both are types of biofuel produced from waste from the woodworking industry (sawdust, wood chips, shavings) and agricultural complexes (rice husks, straw), and differ only in size.
Briquettes are euro firewood, and pellets are granules with a diameter of 6 to 8 millimeters. Both are made from the same raw materials and using the same technology.
The main point is that pellets are cheaper than coal, firewood, and briquettes. One ton can be bought for 15,000 rubles (approximately $167 at current rates), and this amount is enough for three months of severe cold. Confirmation of this is in the video on the Telegram channel (16+) from 26 January.
Pellets are cheaper because there is no shortage, unlike with briquettes. Moreover, many plants in Russia produce tens of millions of tons of pellets per year.
«They ignite faster than firewood, coal, and briquettes. I conducted an experiment: I placed a sheet of metal on the grate so the pellets wouldn»t fall through, poured in the fuel, and in four minutes everything in the stove ignited to 700°C (1292°F). Approximately 15 kilograms (33 lb) is enough for 8 hours of stable burning,« says Ivan, who delivers pellets and briquettes in Zabaikalsky Krai.
According to him, Russia produces 250,000 tons of pellets per year, so there will definitely be no shortage. Moreover, Ivan says there are more plants producing pellets than briquettes. They are suitable for automatic boilers and ordinary stoves, and in terms of energy efficiency, they are not inferior to firewood and coal. You can try the fuel by starting with packaged pellets of 20 or 32 kilograms (44 or 70 lb).
Additionally, Ivan and his employees install and service boilers in homes. The cost of the most inexpensive one is 159,000 rubles (approximately $1,800 at current rates). This relatively low price is because all boilers are brought to Zabaikalsky Krai directly from factories.
«We are working on a program to build a three-meter boiler room 3 × 3 m. We will lower an automatic boiler into it and run power to the house. If it gets clogged, we will clean it ourselves for a small fee.»
If necessary, Ivan and his employees service boilers for both individuals and legal entities.
