The «Tooku Invits Friends» ice sculpture festival will take place on Lake Saisary from February 3 to 7 in honor of the 90th anniversary of the Soyuzmultfilm animation studio. The creator of the best ice figure will receive 200,000 rubles (about $2,200 at current rates). This was reported by the Corporation for the Development of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
Sculptors must create ice compositions at least 3.5 meters high. The theme for the works will be characters from domestic animation, including Umka, Winnie-the-Pooh, Karlsson, the heroes of «Prostokvashino» and «Nu, pogodi!» («Just You Wait!»), among others.
«We especially value that the ice sculpture festival is taking place in Yakutia—a region with a unique culture and strong artistic traditions,» said Boris Mashkovtsev, General Director of the Soyuzmultfilm studio.
The competition winner will receive 200,000 rubles (about $2,200), with second and third place earning 150,000 rubles (about $1,600) and 100,000 rubles (about $1,100) respectively. Teams not making the top three will receive incentive awards, the organizers noted. Winners will be selected by an expert jury evaluating execution technique, creativity, and the completeness of the images. The ice sculpture festival will continue until April.
