Miss Yekaterinburg Chooses Career Before Family
Varvara is 20 years old; she is studying to be an economist
A new beauty queen has been chosen in Yekaterinburg. On City Day, on the main stage of the celebration, the title of Miss Yekaterinburg was won by 20-year-old Varvara Shekhovtsova, a student at UrFU (Ural Federal University).
The beauty gave an interview to E1.RU
Varvara, who studies world economics and is fond of folk dancing, came to the E1.RU studio to talk about her plans for the future. One of the topics of the live broadcast was the debated question: what matters more for a modern woman — a career or motherhood?
Varvara dreams of traveling a lot
E1.RU correspondent Daniil Rumyantsev asked the winner which family model she finds most appealing: the classic version, where the husband is the sole breadwinner and the wife creates comfort, or something else?
Varvara replied that she is betting on self-realization:
“I plan to build a career. I don«t want to start a family right after university for some time. I just want to live for myself and then consciously come to a family. I don»t think a woman necessarily has to sit at home; it all depends on her wishes. I myself plan to work.”
At the same time, the new Miss Yekaterinburg stressed that she does not devalue motherhood:
“I believe that family is very important, and almost every woman comes to it over time. It«s just that everyone has their own age: for some it»s 25, for others — 35. A woman herself should decide when to give birth and when to build a career.”
Varvara grew up in a large family (she has two brothers — an older one and a 19-year-old younger one) and knows firsthand that it is a big responsibility. The young woman admitted that she is not yet ready for having many children:
“Well, it«s no secret that large families are highly valued now, but I myself don»t yet see myself as a mother of three or more children. I want, probably, one or two.”
Right now all of Varvara«s attention is focused on her studies at UrFU. The young woman admitted that she does not work yet, and her personal life is stable — she is in a relationship. Varvara plans to approach starting her own family only when she is fully ready for it morally and financially.
