30 Obscure Holidays Every Samaran Should Celebrate in 2026

There«s only half a month left until the global day of enrichment for flower and candy sellers. Next in line are the manufacturers of three-piece suits (underpants and two socks), sausage bouquets, and other weird gifts. Meanwhile, in Abkhazia, they»re already counting future profits from mimosa shipments, and consultants in perfume stores have started taking magnesium supplements. The whole country is hopefully waiting for the next long weekend.

But besides nationwide holidays, Samara residents have their own purely local reasons for pride. We counted at least another 32 holidays that people in the region can celebrate when feeling blue. Bet you haven«t heard of some of them?

In 2014, under Governor Nikolay Merkushkin, the Samara parliamentarians passed the law «On Commemorative Dates and Holidays of Samara Oblast.» Every subsequent governor has added to this list in their own way. It currently includes: Samara Oblast Day, Day of Remembrance for Samara Oblast Internal Affairs Officers Killed in the Line of Duty, Day of the Opening of the Provincial Zemstvo Assembly, Samara Banner Day, Veterans of Combat Actions Day, Samara Symbolism Day, Day of Specially Protected Natural Areas in Samara Oblast, Peoples« Friendship Day, Day of Remembrance for the 1941 military parade in the city of Kuibyshev, Samara Oblast Trade Unions Day, Day of the First Il-2 Aircraft Rollout in the city of Kuibyshev, Samara Press Day, Gardener»s Day, and Bayán Day.

While compiling the Samaran«s festive calendar, we deliberately removed February 10. The Day of the Terrible GUVD Fire is a day of mourning, when families, friends, acquaintances, and colleagues remember the policemen who perished in the terrible blaze.
