Overnight snowstorm snarls traffic in Voronezh

Residents of Voronezh are complaining about poorly cleared roads after an overnight snowstorm, leading to severe traffic jams and multiple accidents on Monday morning.

Traffic jams gripped Voronezh on the morning of 30 January after an overnight snowstorm. Although by 09:30 the situation on the roads had slightly improved compared to the previous hour, movement is still difficult on the main city streets. The situation is complicated by numerous accidents.

Traffic jams due to accidents are on Patriots Avenue and Labor Avenue, and streets such as 9 January, Shishkova, Antonova-Ovseenko, 45th Rifle Division, Kholzunova, Timiryazeva, and 20th Anniversary of October.

The poor clearing of roads in the city also complicates the situation. A reader of Voronezh1.ru complains that this problem exists even on one of the main roads in Voronezh — on Moscow Avenue.

«It»s simply impossible to drive, the car skids on the snow,« the woman says.

According to weather forecasters, snow in Voronezh will continue until Sunday, 1 February. It will be accompanied by frosts down to -20 degrees Celsius (-4°F). And on the night to Monday, 2 February, the mercury will drop below -30 degrees Celsius (-22°F).
