Kurgan Airport to Stay Open During Runway Renovation

Flights from Kurgan Airport will not be halted even during the runway repair.
Flights will not be suspended at Kurgan Airport during the runway repair. This was announced by Dmitry Kovalenko, executive director of JSC «Kurgan Airport», in response to a request from a 45.RU correspondent.
«Air communication between Kurgan and other cities will not be interrupted. Currently, negotiations are underway with Rosaviatsia (the Federal Air Transport Agency) and other federal and regional structures to coordinate the schedule of repair work on the territory of the Kurgan airport airfield», Kovalenko said and added that specific start dates for the repair have not yet been determined.
The cost of the major repair of the territory at Kurgan Airport will be about 1.6 billion rubles (approximately $18 million at current rates). The amount of 1.7 billion rubles (around $19 million) was mentioned by Vadim Shumkov during his direct line in December 2025.
Currently, planes fly from Kurgan Airport to Moscow and St. Petersburg. In the spring–summer, the flight to Sochi will return, which was suspended for the winter period due to low demand. No new flights will appear in Kurgan for now, but, according to Kovalenko, the airport management together with the government of the Kurgan Region are constantly negotiating with Russian airlines.
Earlier we wrote that the repair of the runway and adjacent territory of Kurgan Airport is planned for 2026.
