Kazan village taxi fares hit 1,000 rubles post-bus cancellation
Taxi prices have been increased due to high demand during the snow emergency.
Due to heavy snowfall, the State Traffic Inspectorate has suspended the departure of 13 school buses that transport children from Kazan«s villages to institutions in other parts of the city, the mayor»s office reported.
We examined fares for trips from the villages to Kazan«s center.
Buses were canceled from the residential areas of Malye Derbyshki, Kulseitovo, Staroe Pobedilovo, Aki, Chebaksa, the Krasnooktyabrsky village, Krutushka, Shcherbakovka, the Novonikolaevsky village, Privolny, Voznesenskoe, the residential complex «Sportivnaya Station», and Vostochny.
The most economical trip starts from 1,000 rubles (about $10 at current rates).
From these areas, children were taken to 20 schools. The restrictions will be in effect until further notice, so parents of schoolchildren will have to arrange their children«s travel to and from school themselves.
Demand for «economy-class» rides has surged.
Moreover, regular city bus routes have also been canceled today. These are:
No. 93 from the Lenin Cultural Palace to the settlement of Bernovye Kovali
No. 89A from the Zhilploshchadka residential area to the Krasnooktyabrsky residential area
No. 36A from the Zalesny residential area to Novonikolaevsky
Operating with shortened routes:
No. 40 from the Lenin Cultural Palace to the interchange with the M7 highway
No. 78 from the Yashlek metro station to the turn to Krutushki
Since the authorities are advising alternative transport, we checked taxi fares from the mentioned villages to central Kazan. For example, a trip from the Kulseitovo residential area costs at least 1,300 rubles (about $13 at current rates) one way.
On average, trips from the villages to the city at the most economical rates cost at least 1,000 rubles (about $10 at current rates), with a wait time of 13-17 minutes for a car.
The journey from the Staroe Pobedilovo area to the center is cheaper, almost by half — 546 rubles (about $5 at current rates).
A similar situation is seen in the residential complex «Sportivnaya Station».
Residents of the Novonikolaevsky village face taxi waits of over 20 minutes and fares exceeding 1,200 rubles (about $12 at current rates).
Kazan has been in a snow crisis since last night, despite round-the-clock work by city services. Roads are congested even outside peak hours, flights are delayed, and on Bolshaya Krylovka Street, a support collapsed under snow weight, halting trolleybus No. 1. Passengers are crowding buses. Authorities say the city is under abnormal precipitation.
According to expert forecasts, the snow cyclone that hit Moscow and reached Tatarstan will remain in the republic until the weekend«s end.
