Former Traktor head coach Benoit Groulx has been appointed as the mentor of Swiss hockey club Zug. The official announcement was published on the team«s website on Wednesday, January 21.
Groulx will lead the team during a difficult period. As noted in the club«s statement, Zug has shown unsatisfactory results, which led to the resignation of the previous coach, Michael Liniger.
Zug«s general manager Patrick Lengwiler commented on the personnel changes: »We fully supported Michael Liniger. However, in the end, as head coach, he was responsible for the team and its results. Unfortunately, he was unable to sufficiently move the team forward and ensure its stability.«
Benoit Groulx is expected to join the club already on Thursday, January 22.
Recall that the Canadian specialist left Chelyabinsk Traktor in November 2025, citing physical and mental fatigue. After his departure, the duties of head coach were temporarily performed by Raphael Riche, who in early December also left the club and signed a contract with Omsk Avangard. On December 16, Evgeny Koreshkov was appointed as the new mentor of Traktor.
