The meeting between Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Gleb Nikitin and Federation Council Chairwoman Valentina Matviyenko was dedicated to the socio-economic development of the region.
According to Nikitin, over ten months in 2025, real wages in the oblast increased by 7.2%, and real incomes of the population grew by 8.6%. The unemployment rate stood at 0.01%, which is the lowest indicator in the country.
The governor also spoke about a program to support families with children, the key element of which is the parental basic income. These payments are provided as a lump sum or in installments, with the majority of recipients choosing phased receipt of funds.
“The total fertility rate in the region has increased. Moreover, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast has exceeded the forecasts of Rosstat (the Federal State Statistics Service). I hope the result will be even more tangible in the future,” Nikitin stated.
Specific figures on the birth rate are not being published, as Rosstat ceased updating demographic statistics since spring 2025. This fact has drawn attention from demographers, media, and representatives of some political parties.
During the conversation, Nikitin noted efforts to enhance the oblast«s tourist appeal, including the inclusion of its cities in the Golden Ring route. Analysts are already predicting that this decision may lead to an increase in prices for daily rental housing in the region.
