Mothers with many children are being offered a one-hour shorter workday. As noted by State Duma deputy Igor Antropenko, this will help Russian women balance family and career.

“We know that with the birth of a child, a woman often loses «in her career» and that it is difficult to return to work after several maternity leaves. I proposed to the Ministry of Labor to find an opportunity to shorten the workday by an hour for mothers of many children, as well as to find an opportunity to incentivize organizations where parents of many children work,” TASS quotes the deputy as saying.

In his opinion, adopting such a decision will encourage companies “not to be afraid” to hire a mother who has three or more children. As Antropenko noted, support for such women should be provided at the state level.

“There should be guarantees for young mothers, for mothers of many children, so that they are confident that the state and society support them and they can combine work and motherhood,” he concluded.

In Russia, programs to support families with many children are in effect and new ones are regularly developed. For example, recently in the State Duma, it was proposed to provide couples with three or more children with free housing.
