Doctors Remove 18 Magnets from Three-Year-Old's Intestine in Stavropol

Surgeons extracted 18 magnets from the intestine of a three-year-old child during an emergency procedure.
Unfortunately, this is not the first, but a surprising and concerning case that occurred in the regional capital. A boy with a cough was brought to the children«s hospital. After examination, it became clear — the situation is complex, and surgery is required.
As reported by the children«s regional hospital, the child was prescribed a lung X-ray. Doctors discovered several magnets that were already in the intestine. Every minute counted because the harmless-looking balls could at any moment cause necrosis (tissue death), peritonitis, or other severe consequences.
«The boy was urgently operated on. The surgery was successful, but imagine our shock and relief when we extracted… 18 magnets from the duodenum and large intestine. Eighteen tiny but such dangerous toys. This little one got his second chance, thanks to the coordinated work of our team he will now be healthy,» said the medics.

After a successful operation, the three-year-old boy is on the path to recovery.
Residents of Stavropol were reminded that it«s better to be a step ahead and try to prevent such cases in the future.
«Check all toys in the house. Especially those with magnetic elements. Keep away from small children not only toys with magnets but also various “adult” small items: batteries, coins, construction kit parts. A child«s curiosity knows no bounds. They explore the world by tasting it. Our and your task is to make this world safe,» noted the medical institution.
Recall that recently in Yessentuki a similar case occurred: a three-year-old boy was brought to the city clinical hospital with complaints of severe pain and abdominal bloating. As reported by the medical institution, a pediatric surgeon prescribed an X-ray, and on the image, doctors saw what no one expected: in the projection of the large intestine, there were dozens of small foreign bodies. Later it turned out that the child had swallowed more than 25 stones. The boy«s parents could not explain when exactly this happened.
