Volgograd center's Ferris wheel dismantled, to be rebuilt in south

The Ferris wheel cabins have been relocated to the Krasnoarmeysky District for installation on Engels Boulevard.
Volgograd«s Central Park of Culture and Recreation has finally said goodbye to the legendary Ferris wheel. All parts of the structure are now in the Krasnoarmeysky District and, after refurbishment, will become part of a Ferris wheel on Engels Boulevard.
Recall that plans to relocate the 50-meter Ferris wheel were announced in September, when the park director also said that a new, 120-meter wheel would appear in the Central Park. The park administration reported the shipment of the last seven cabins of the old 50-meter wheel to the Krasnoarmeysky District, promising that assembly work would soon begin on Engels Boulevard.
— Currently, all elements of the Ferris wheel: 40 spokes 25 meters long, 240 connecting elements, rims, drive mechanisms, and other structures — are at the contractor«s base, — said the park administration. — Before assembly, the parts are undergoing sandblasting. The passenger cabins themselves will be modernized: the contractor will install new air conditioning systems. Additionally, the 50-meter wheel along with the cabins will be painted red and given a new name — »Red Sun«. There are only a few attractions of this color worldwide, one of the most famous being »Red Horse« in Osaka, Japan.
The administration also added that work on Engels Boulevard has already begun: they recently finished laying the foundation. It is expected that the wheel in the Krasnoarmeysky District will become a key entertainment object: it is promised that from it, one will be able to see the entire boulevard, the Volga-Don Canal, and the Volga River itself. The opening is expected in the «current warm season».
