Volgograd Detains Man Over Army Fakes
The man was detained in his own apartment in the Dzerzhinsky district
Exclusive details have emerged about the detention in Volgograd of a Ukrainian-born man accused of spreading fake news about the Russian Armed Forces. The man was detained the day before in his own apartment and is set to be sent to a pre-trial detention center.
According to investigators, from January 2023 to April 2025 the man systematically disseminated, on his account on a social network and on his own channel on a blogging platform, knowingly false information about the actions of the Russian Armed Forces, presenting it as reliable reports.
The man«s actions were stopped by operatives from the Federal Security Service (FSB) Directorate for Volgograd Oblast, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) for Volgograd Oblast, with support from Rosgvardiya officers and investigators from the regional Investigative Committee.
The detention took place in an apartment building in the Sem Vetrov microdistrict. The man refused to open the door voluntarily, forcing security forces to break the locks. In footage from an operational video, the detainee«s voice can be heard insisting he had done nothing wrong. He is then told why he drew the attention of police officers, who read out the order opening a criminal case.
It is known that the detained man is a native of Ukraine. He graduated from a law school and worked at one of the region«s formerly large retailers.
Posts remain on the man«s social media page in which he expressed respect for artists designated as foreign agents who have left Russia, spoke highly critically about the special military operation, condemned the Russian army»s retaliatory actions after Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian civilian infrastructure, and posted photos of naked women in highly provocative poses. The last time the man logged into the social network was a few days before his detention.
Just yesterday, the recently appointed head of the Main Directorate of the MVD for Volgograd Oblast, Pavel Gishchenko, spoke in extremely uncompromising terms about those who express dissatisfaction with the special military operation on social media and condemn state policy.
“When I read the so-called liberals who speak negatively about the special military operation, I, as a person who spent a long time there (at the line of contact — Ed. note), am extremely indignant,” Pavel Gishchenko said. “What we are fighting for today is not just words. We are truly fighting for traditional values. What is wrong with our Orthodox religion believing that [a family] should have one father and one mother, and that they should be of different sexes? What is wrong with the commandments ‘thou shalt not kill’ and ‘thou shalt not steal’? Nothing. And when you see with your own eyes how neo-Nazis burn churches, our shrines, and then someone speaks up [with the opinion] that ‘there is nothing terrible about this’ — I am baffled by such people. They, it seems to me, do [things] far more terrible for our state, for [its] destabilization, than some young guy who plays the guitar loudly under windows and keeps people from sleeping.”
