Sverdlovsk Doctors Help Woman Walk Again After Log Accident

Yekaterinburg resident Oksana Nadoshi came within a hair«s breadth of death while logs were being loaded at a sawmill. The heavy trunks miraculously did not crush her, but injured the left side of her body. The woman spent three months completely immobile and then ended up in a wheelchair. Sverdlovsk doctors explained how they managed to restore Oksana»s mobility.

“She was admitted with the consequences of multiple skeletal trauma, including fractures of the lower third of the right femur, the lower leg, the ankle joint, the right forearm, and the right wrist joint. After the operations, the patient had limited movement in the knee, ankle, and wrist joints. Oksana could only move in a wheelchair and could not stand up or stand on her own,” said the woman«s attending physician, trauma orthopedist Andrey Gayev of Sverdlovsk Regional Clinical Hospital No. 3.

Thanks to the doctors, Oksana was first able to walk with crutches, although every step was painful and frightening for her. Then she relearned how to move independently. Exercise machines, therapeutic physical training, and an individual program to strengthen muscles and joints were only the beginning of her road to recovery.
