The 326-meter-tall St. Petersburg TV tower has become completely encased in ice. A Fontanka.ru photographer captured this phenomenon, caused by an anticyclone that brought abnormally low temperatures to the city.

Chief meteorologist of the city Alexander Kolesov noted that the past night was one of the coldest this winter. The temperature dropped to minus 17.6 degrees Celsius (about 0°F), just 0.1 degrees above the record set on January 5.

According to Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the FOBOS center, the frosts will intensify. On Saturday night into Sunday, temperatures are expected to drop to minus 18 to 20 degrees Celsius (about 0 to -4°F). Daytime temperatures on Sunday will be around minus 13 to 15 degrees Celsius (about 9 to 5°F). On Saturday, temperatures will range from minus 12 to 14 degrees Celsius (about 10 to 7°F).
