1,053 residents of Voronezh Region were injured on slippery sidewalks, steps, and in uncleaned yards from January 22 to 28, with 106 of them hospitalized — according to data from the regional Ministry of Health. Over the same week, 24 people suffered frostbite, and 13 of them were hospitalized. Thus, one in ten victims of the negligence of utility services and extreme frosts ended up in a hospital bed. The difference from the previous week is small: then, 1,154 people were injured due to black ice, although more people were hospitalized.

This winter has been a complete surprise for Voronezh authorities and utility workers, judging by the situation on the city streets. Voronezh turned into one big skating rink, got stuck in traffic jams — and even the prosecutors« patience ran out. It turns out that they had warned city officials back in the fall — saying that from December to February is a special time of year, with snow and ice, and you»re not prepared. Apparently, they didn«t believe it. As a result, Mayor Sergei Petrin has already received a reprimand from prosecutors — to punish the guilty and force everything to be cleaned up. Moreover, the supervisory authority for the region has begun mass initiation of administrative cases against the management of managing companies and municipal utility services. And directors of managing companies were reminded that if they continue to be lazy, they could lose their licenses.
