In Tatarstan, mass inspections of gas equipment and chimneys have been planned after several poisoning incidents. This was announced by the head of the State Housing Inspectorate (Goszhilinspektsiya) Alexander Tygin in his report to the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Since the beginning of the year, 8 residents of the republic have died from carbon monoxide poisoning. That is twice as many as last year.

Tygin warned that residents who intentionally do not let gas workers into their apartments face gas disconnection.

«This is unequivocally a disconnection from gas. Don»t want to let the gas worker into the apartment? No questions — then you won«t have gas,» warned the head of the State Housing Inspectorate.

Starting March 1, 2026, responsibility for violations, as well as inspection rules, will be tightened. Specialists will not only inspect gas equipment but also take measurements.

«So that every apartment owner sees the number, what their air exchange rate is, and is calm that everything is normal. So that they see how the ventilation works, how the windows work,» noted Tygin.

At the beginning of the year, a fatal poisoning case occurred in the village of Verkhny Uslon (Tatarstan). On January 9, four people, including two children, were poisoned there. All of them died. Preliminary reports indicate the cause of the tragedy was a violation of gas equipment usage rules.

On January 8, a man and a 10-year-old boy were also hospitalized in Kazan after they were poisoned by gas while using a water heater with closed windows.
