Vasnetsov, Troepolsky, and Alexei Glyzin: Weekend Events in Voronezh

The weather in Voronezh at the end of January is not encouraging: there«s freezing rain, plus temperatures, and forecasts of a return to -20°C (-4°F) frosts. Walking around the city isn»t very pleasant now, but that doesn«t mean you have to stay home this weekend. Where to go in Voronezh on the weekend of January 31 and February 1 — in our guide.

Alexei Glyzin Concert (6+)

On February 1, Alexei Glyzin will perform at the Voronezh Concert Hall. He will perform his famous hits: «You»re Not an Angel«, »Winter Garden«, »Late Evening in Sorrento«, »Letters from Afar«, »Whether It«s Will or Not Will», and others. Tickets cost from 3,700 to 5,600 rubles (approximately $37 to $56 at current rates).
Rock Hits on Cellos (6+)
On January 31, at the Eventuki space, the cello ensemble Storm Cellos will perform compositions by groups such as Metallica, Linkin Park, AC/DC, Rammstein, Radiohead, Queen, Muse, Nirvana, System of a Down, Bon Jovi. The concert will last 70 minutes. Ticket price is 1,500 rubles (approximately $15).
Vasnetsov, Repin, Bilibin and Others
Until February 8, at the I.N. Kramskoy Museum in Voronezh, the exhibition «Invisible Threads: Christian and Historical Motifs in the Work of Russian Artists» (0+) is taking place. It features sketches, drafts, studies, and fragments of paintings by many painters, including Viktor Vasnetsov, Ilya Repin, Mikhail Nesterov, Valentin Serov, Ivan Bilibin, and others. Admission ticket costs 300 rubles (approximately $3).
Voronezh Writers
At the Regional Literary Museum named after I.S. Nikitin, in the building of the Meshchanskaya Uprava, on any day except Monday and Tuesday, you can visit exhibitions and tours dedicated to Voronezh writers. For example, in the hall «Osip Mandelstam in Voronezh» (6+), you can learn details about the three years the poet spent in exile in our city.
In the same building, until February 8, the exhibition «Our Fellow Countryman Gavriil Troepolsky» (6+) is held, timed to the 120th anniversary of the writer«s birth. Also, you can take a tour through three halls via the exposition »Alexei Koltsov« (6+).

Theater
This weekend at the Chamber Theatre, on January 31, the dance performance «The Raft of the Medusa» (18+) will be shown, created based on the eponymous painting by French artist Théodore Géricault. On February 1 on stage — «Biedermann and the Arsonists» (18+), a satirical comedy by Swiss novelist and playwright Max Frisch. Tickets cost from 1,300 to 3,500 rubles (approximately $13 to $35).
At the Nikitsky Theatre this week — «Secret Views of Mount Fuji» based on Victor Pelevin. Ticket prices start from 2,000 rubles (approximately $20).
At the A. Koltsov Drama Theatre — the comedy «Seraphima» based on the play «All About This Angel» by Yuri Sukhodolsky. Playing in it, by the way, is regional parliament deputy Yuri Smyshnikov. And at the Opera and Ballet Theatre, you can attend the ballet «The Sleeping Beauty» (6+) for 400–1,100 rubles (approximately $4 to $11).
