Parents craft elaborate holiday decorations for kindergarten competitions

Some crafts were made independently, while others relied on family assistance.
December is a time for creativity. This is the month when children make New Year«s crafts, and many parents actively participate in the process. It»s time for our traditional feature: we asked users of the NGS Telegram channel to show us what holiday crafts they made this year. Let«s admire and be inspired!

An adorable squirrel was inspired by images found on Pinterest.
‘We were inspired by Pinterest, though really the child was helping me and my husband — it«s a joint creative effort. Our daughter Veronika is 4,’ explained Alina.

A candy-filled craft won a school prize for its creative packaging.
‘Semyon, 10 years old. He made it himself, it has candies inside, and he won a prize for best gift wrapping,’ Yulia sent the photo.
Many readers doubted that the crafts were made by children.
‘It«s better for parents to do it together with the child, that way they at least spend time together. The child still does something. They plan, discuss, the child sees the manufacturing process, how a beautiful thing appears from all sorts of bits and pieces,’ objected reader Marina. ‘Better than not doing anything at all, since a child alone can»t do it, especially a little one. This way parents pass on their experience to their children. Passed down directly, so to speak.’

A teen used a felt kit to create The Humpbacked Horse and a Firebird«s feather.
Fifteen-year-old Anna prepared for the New Year in advance and bought a felt kit. But her mother«s help was still required.
‘I helped her arrange the pieces on the felt correctly, showed her the stitches. Unfortunately, modern technology classes at school don«t teach this. [We got] joy from working together and talking, and a beautiful symbol for 2026,’ the teenager»s mother noted.

A six-year-old«s detailed village scene was a family project with dad and aunt.
‘According to her dad, six-year-old Karolina did the big parts herself, some parts — with dad«s help. The small details were worked on by the adults,’ teacher Anna explained. ‘They were inspired by their native house in their grandmother and great-grandmother»s village, by memories of the most magical New Year. New Year in the village is special, without fuss, and you immediately believe that Ded Moroz (Father Frost) really exists.’
‘I helped the children, suggested various ideas, we looked at pictures on Pinterest. The carousel was not chosen by chance, as it«s for a craft competition at the Novosibirsk circus’s Christmas tree,’ noted an NGS reader.

A five-year-old and her mother crafted a Christmas tree for a local competition.
‘I really love creative work, I don«t like simplicity, I love to spend a day or two on a craft. My daughter always helps me, observes from the side. We also love to draw. Inspiration came at the end of 10th grade. At the moment I»m drawing ‘The Crane and the Fox’ for a competition,’ wrote Tatyana.

A two-year-old helped create a cheerful snowman from available materials.

A mother and her three-year-old son collaborated on a festive holiday craft.
‘This was the first craft for kindergarten, we made it with a big group. Initially I was inspired by the idea of making something quick and easy. I found a real stump behind the garages, dragged it home. It turned out to be worm-eaten, so I had to make a base from available materials. Well, then everything was like in a fog: a real story of a winter stump grandfather appeared. If you look closely, under the stairs there is a sleigh with firewood,’ shared Alena.

A six-year-old boy and his mother entered their joint creation in a contest.

A seven-year-old boy crafted an applique picture using colorful paper shapes.

A seven-year-old«s charming snowmen were made with careful attention to detail.

A mother guided her six-year-old son through the steps of making his craft.
‘Every year we try to make something interesting and unusual with my son. Ideas come by themselves, then long searches for different materials for the craft begin. My son always takes part in choosing the composition, the toys. I mainly make the craft, because the child is 6 years old, but he is always nearby observing. I want the child to see and remember how to make a craft neatly and beautifully, so that later in school he can make something similar himself,’ explained Alina.

A seven-year-old girl created a festive picture of bullfinches on a branch.
This year, NGS readers also delighted with a whole series of amazing autumn crafts.
