The premiere of the play «King Lear» based on the tragedy by William Shakespeare is scheduled for January 31, February 1 and 7 on the main stage of the Lensovet Theatre. Fyodor Pshenichny«s directorial debut in a large format uses a modern translation by poet Andrei Chernov, transforming the ancient legend into a personal family catastrophe.

Fyodor Pshenichny, who previously established himself as a director on the Small Stage, interprets «King Lear» as a story about the collapse of language and mutual misunderstanding. He defines the essence of the play as follows: «A story about Love that went unnoticed. About a Word that was not heard. About a Heart that was not understood.»

The production speaks of fundamental values destroyed under the weight of everyday unspoken things. This is a story for the modern world, where tragedies are often born in family chats. To achieve emotional depth, the director attracted People«s Artist of Russia Sergei Migitsko to the lead role.

Andrei Chernov«s translation was used nine years ago in Yuri Butusov»s «Hamlet». Now a similar poetic approach is applied to the story of a father and daughters to reveal its painful relevance.

Fyodor Pshenichny sees hope in the tragedy and concludes the description of the play with a line that can serve as an epigraph: «But even in the darkest night, the sky preserves the dawn.»

The age restriction for the production is 16+.
