Student Who Attacked College Teachers with Knife Sentenced in Arkhangelsk

In Arkhangelsk, a verdict was passed for 18-year-old Artyomy Koryukov, who attacked teachers with a knife at a technical college. He was tried for participation in a terrorist organization and attempted murder of four people motivated by ideological hatred and in connection with the victims performing their public duty (Part 2 of Article 205.5 and Part 3 of Article 30, points «a», «b», «l» of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Russian Criminal Code).

As the regional prosecutor«s office stated, the former student of the Arkhangelsk College of Construction and Economics shared the ideology of an international terrorist organization. He searched for and distributed online and among other college students propaganda of violence and attacks on educational institutions. He also recreated the college building and its interior in the game Minecraft, as well as staff and students, and then shot everyone in the game.

«Subsequently, being dissatisfied with his academic results and attributing this to biased treatment by teachers, guided by his destructive beliefs, he planned and prepared an attack at the educational institution,» the prosecutor«s office of the Arkhangelsk region and the Nenets Autonomous Okrug said.

Koryukov published an online post declaring his intent to commit a mass murder, and the next day, armed with a knife, he attacked his former teacher, inflicting multiple stab wounds on her.

While trying to escape, Koryukov struck another teacher who blocked his path. He also attempted to kill two students who detained him.

Koryukov pleaded guilty in full. He was sentenced to 13 years of imprisonment, with 1 year of restricted freedom and the first 2 years to be served in prison, followed by time in a strict-regime penal colony.

The attack on the teachers occurred on the morning of September 29: the young Arkhangelsk resident came to the educational institution wearing a mask and carrying a knife. He might have been let in with an old student ID. He attacked the educators with the weapon. They were hospitalized with serious injuries.

Ordinary students helped detain the unstable young man. They handed him over to a patrol squad. Earlier we collected all the details of the emergency in a separate article.

The incident was also commented on by Governor Alexander Tsybulsky. He said the situation shocked everyone. Meanwhile, the regional ministry of education noted that, despite Artyomy«s family being well-off, he was registered with authorities.
