Gang convicted for attempted murder and extortion in Ulyanovsk

In Ulyanovsk, members of a criminal group who committed attempted murder and extortion in the summer of 2020 have been convicted. This was reported by the regional Investigative Committee. The group was charged under Part 3 of Article 163 (extortion), Part 3 of Article 30, and Part 2 of Article 105 (attempted murder) of the Russian Criminal Code. As the investigation found, the perpetrators arrived in Novo-Ulyanovsk, where they demanded an alleged debt and money for future protection, and beat an entrepreneur with baseball bats.
The victim stopped showing signs of life and was believed to be dead. Fortunately, he managed to survive, but the injuries required lengthy treatment.
The investigation was protracted—the entrepreneur had a poor memory of the circumstances of the incident and, in addition, feared revenge from the accomplices who remained at large.
In the end, the court sentenced the defendants to prison terms ranging from nine years to 10 years and two months. The sentence has entered into force.
