His childhood was troubled: his father committed suicide at 40, and his mother abused alcohol and brutally beat her son. Later, he said he didn«t blame his mother, perceiving violence as »normality«.

Bychkov committed his first murder at the age of 21. The victim was a random drinking companion. Later, he deliberately chose vagrants and alcoholics – people who reminded him of his mother«s surroundings. He lured them to deserted places, gave them drinks, and killed them with a knife or hammer. Among the motives, the investigation cites a desire for self-affirmation and a sense of power.

After the murders, Bychkov dismembered the bodies, buried the remains, or threw them on dumps. Body parts were found in forested areas near the town of Belinsky in Penza Oblast. He freely walked around the city in bloodstained clothes and, according to testimonies, once entered a vodka bar with bags containing severed heads.

Bychkov was detained in 2012 after stealing a set of knives. During interrogations, he confessed to 9 murders, including that of his stepfather. An examination recognized him as capable of being aware of his actions during the murders. On March 22, 2013, the court sentenced Alexander Bychkov to life imprisonment. While already in prison, he met a U.S. citizen, entered into marriage, and became a father.
