People Played and Abandoned Them: Adorable Inseparable Cats Freeze in Arkhangelsk

The two cats are currently in an unheated temporary shelter and need a warm home for winter.
A resident of Arkhangelsk is rehoming two teenage cats that she rescued twice from life on the streets. The 9-month-old pets have been together since childhood and have already experienced a lot. We learned more about their fate and the conditions they are currently in.
The boys are named Grisha and Vasya. Both have bicolor coats (white with tabby) and pink noses. Marina Kulba, an Arkhangelsk resident, found them when they were very small.
“We rescued them from a basement as small kittens, sick and helpless, treated them for ringworm for two months, and placed them in what seemed like a good family. But the cats grew up, and people got tired of playing and threw them out. I just managed to come and take them from the stairwell.”
According to Marina, the former owner gave her a week to find a new home for the cats. She cited allergies as the reason.
“I was always in touch with her, asked her to take them to the clinic I had arranged with, to foster them for a few days. She brought them out in a box and called to say they had escaped and she couldn’t find them. I arrived — they were sitting on the first floor in the stairwell, behind the door.”
The fluffy friends are living in an annex workshop — Marina’s friends agreed to temporarily shelter them. But the room is not heated.
“Now I’m looking for a warm [foster home] for them for the winter, or they’ll freeze. I’m constantly rescuing kittens, but because we haven’t been able to rehome these adults for three months, we can’t take anyone else for fostering,” added our interviewee.
If you want to take the animals in or are ready to help with fostering, you can contact Marina directly.
Earlier we wrote about a cat with Thai coloring that was found in the basement of a residential building in Arkhangelsk, and about two adult cats from Mirny whose owner died.
More About Animals
Look at how an 8-year-old cat named Vaska, who ended up in an Arkhangelsk animal shelter, has changed over several months. Now he is ready for life in a loving family.
There are many homeless animals in Arkhangelsk, but there are also many people willing to help animals left without owners. Tatiana Nikulina is one of them. An experienced volunteer told us how the problem can be solved.
Not everyone can take an animal home, but they help by taking them in for temporary fostering. Olga Tyuryapina from Arkhangelsk did just that. See what kind of little one she sheltered.
But there are also people who treat animals quite differently: a young dog named Rex was once tied up near an entrance and left completely alone. The owner never came back. Rex is waiting for his new family.
And in the Severodvinsk shelter for homeless cats “KotoYaselki,” they are rehoming a cat named Denis with a noble coat and azure eyes: he was afraid of people, but volunteers are sure that, once in a family, he will start to trust.
