In mobile taxi-hailing services operating in Volgograd, the cost of rides has sharply increased: compared to standard rates, prices have risen by about one and a half to two times.
We took data from three apps for one route: from the north to the center of Volgograd.
In Yandex Go, a ride on the «Economy» tariff will cost almost 900 rubles (about $9 at current rates). In Uber, it«s slightly cheaper — only 820 rubles (about $8 at current rates). The best deal, based on price, is to order from »Vezet«, but for the standard tariff, a car simply isn»t found, and for «Express», you«ll have to pay a full 900 rubles (about $9 at current rates).
— It«s just a rip-off. They know that those who are late have no real choice: either you pay, or you run for a minibus. And even if you order, you still have to wait for the car at least 10–15 minutes. The snowdrifts are such that you can»t drive through normally, — says one of the passengers.
The increase in cost, however, is quite logical. The service Yandex Go, for example, explains it with high demand and difficult traffic on the roads due to overnight snowfall.
The editorial office of V1.RU has requested an official comment from Yandex«s press service.
