Rip-Off: Taxi Prices in Volgograd Double

In Volgograd, taxi service users have faced a sharp increase in trip costs. In mobile apps, prices have risen one and a half to two times compared to standard fares.

The comparison was made on the route from the northern districts to the city center. The following rates were recorded in different services:

• In Yandex Go, a trip on the «Economy» option costs nearly 900 rubles (approximately $10 at current rates).
• In Uber, the cost is slightly lower — 820 rubles (approximately $9 at current rates).
• In the «Vezyot» app, the standard fare is unavailable, and the «Express» service is priced at 900 rubles (approximately $10 at current rates).

One passenger expressed dissatisfaction: «It»s just a rip-off. They know that those who are late have no real choice: either you pay or you run for a minibus. And even if you order, you still have to wait for the car for at least 10-15 minutes. The snowdrifts are such that you can«t drive normally.»

Yandex Go explained that the price increase is due to high demand and hindered traffic on the roads due to the overnight snowfall.
