Moscow«s Domodedovo Airport will be put up for sale for a second time. The first auction did not take place, as only entrepreneur Yevgeny Bogaty was prepared to buy the air harbor, but the commission did not allow him.

The repeat auction will be held on January 29 — now with a reduced price. The starting cost of the airport is 132 billion rubles (approximately $1.3 billion at current rates).

It could be bought by the owners of Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo. The press service of the first airport told RBC that Sheremetyevo International Airport (JSC) will participate in the auction if the state agrees to lower the price.

Moscow International Airport (a subsidiary of Vnukovo) has already joined in — the application was submitted today. As Vnukovo co-owner Vitaly Vantsev told Vedomosti, partners may be brought in to manage the asset.

«A complicated asset,» Vantsev assessed the lot.

In summer 2025, he had already stated his desire to become an investor in Domodedovo. In an interview with RBC, the businessman said that his team has managed major aviation hubs and «is ready to take on Domodedovo.» According to him, covering the airport«s losses should not come from the budget.

The airport is being sold after it was nationalized last year. Experts disagree on whether Domodedovo will benefit its new owner. For instance, the former owner of the airport, businessman Anton Bakov, calls it «a broken trough».

Domodedovo«s total debt is 70 billion rubles (approximately $700 million at current rates). How the air harbor was taken from its former owners — we covered in a separate article.
