Investigators Pinpoint Cause of Fire Killing Three

Details have emerged of the tragedy in the village of Kurki, Artinsky District, where three people died in a fire last weekend.

According to investigators, on the eve of the fire, a family of four celebrated a birthday. After the celebration, on the night of July 18, three family members went to sleep in the house, while the fourth relative stayed to sleep in the bathhouse.

«In the early morning, this man noticed a fire on the veranda of the house. He tried to extinguish it, but could not handle the flames, which gradually spread to the house,» the regional Investigative Committee said. «Later, emergency workers arrived and extinguished the fire. The bodies of the deceased were then found in the home.»

A criminal case has been opened under Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing death by negligence to two or more persons). According to one version, the fire could have been caused by an emergency mode of the electrical wiring. The deceased were a married couple: a man born in 1957 and his wife born in 1961, and their son (born in 1989).

«The elderly couple were retirees, their son was not officially employed. All of them were characterized satisfactorily. The collected materials were handed over by police officers to our colleagues from the regional Investigative Committee of Russia,» said Valery Gorelykh, official representative of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Sverdlovsk Oblast.
