St. Petersburg hits record low temperature this winter

According to the city«s chief meteorologist Alexander Kolesov, the first day of February was the coldest during the recent cold spell. The average temperature on February 1 was -16.7 degrees Celsius (about 2°F), which is lower than the previous »leader« — January 31.
«We»ve been expecting this since last Monday, and it all came together on this Sunday. The coldest night, and the day warmed up very slowly; only by 21:00 did the air temperature rise to -13°C (about 9°F),« Kolesov noted. He added that, considering the beginning warming, this record is still relevant, although a return of cold is still expected.
Such a low average temperature has not been seen in St. Petersburg since January 20, 2024, when thermometers showed -16.9 degrees Celsius (about 2°F).
On Monday, February 2, the weather became relatively warmer: in the morning, the temperature was about -8 degrees Celsius (18°F), which will hold throughout the day. However, a north wind with a speed of 8-12 m/s and light precipitation, brought by a cyclone passing to the east, will create some discomfort.
- In the future, the weather will again be determined by an anticyclone.
- No precipitation is expected, and the temperature will drop slightly.
- For most of the week, daytime temperatures are forecast to be -8…-13°C (18…9°F).
- By the end of the week, a cooling to -15…-17°C (5…1°F) is possible.
Significant warming, according to meteorologists« forecasts, is likely only by mid-February; no serious changes are expected in the first decade of the month.
