Severe frost continues to dominate St. Petersburg, and city residents have been warned of an extremely cold night ahead.
Despite the extreme cold, some residents in St. Petersburg engage in winter activities like ice walking and swimming.
According to forecasts, on the night of February 2, the air will cool to -20 degrees Celsius (-4°F). During the day on February 2, a warming to -9...-11 degrees Celsius (16...12°F) is expected, with light snow and icy roads persisting.
By 20:00 on February 1, the temperature in the city was recorded at -15.6 degrees Celsius (4°F).
Forecast for the coming days:
- On Monday night: -12...-14°C (10...7°F).
- On Tuesday daytime: -10...-12°C (14...10°F).
- On Tuesday night into Wednesday: -13...-15°C (9...5°F), and in some areas down to -18...-20°C (0...-4°F).
- On Wednesday daytime: -10...-12°C (14...10°F).
However, for some city residents, the severe frost is just an excuse for activity. On Sunday, walrus swimming (a winter swimming tradition) took place near the Peter and Paul Fortress, and the ice on the Fontanka and Neva rivers was filled with strollers all day.
