Spring in Nizhny Novgorod Region to Arrive Earlier Than Usual

A forecaster predicts that spring will arrive early in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
Frosts persist in central regions of Russia. Long-term forecasts indicate that February will generally be around or below the climatic norm due to an abnormally cold start to the month. This week in Nizhny Novgorod, a cold snap down to -26 degrees Celsius (approximately -15 degrees Fahrenheit) is expected.
Meteorological spring in the Nizhny Novgorod Region will begin earlier than usual. Yevgeny Tishkovets, a specialist from the weather center «Fobos,» reported that a stable transition of air temperature above zero degrees is forecasted for around mid-March, which is a week ahead of the standard timeframe. According to him, if it weren«t for abnormal snowfalls, this process would have started even earlier.
Tishkovets warned of the likelihood of severe flooding and inundation of significant land areas. Preliminary estimates show that the spring season will be quite warm with normal precipitation, but May is expected to be relatively rainy.
Summer 2026, according to forecasts, will become hotter and drier compared to long-term averages.
