Snowfall Causes Tram to Derail in Nizhny Novgorod

Eyewitnesses reported on social media about a tram derailment in the Avtozavodsky district of Nizhny Novgorod. The incident occurred due to heavy snowfall.

The tram of route No. 8 derailed near Hero Smirnov Street. The cause was the accumulation of snow on the rails, which had not been cleared in time.

Utility services are currently working to free the tram. According to online map data, traffic on this section has not yet been restored.

Mayor Yuri Shalabaev earlier noted that the past night was the snowiest of the entire week of bad weather. During this period, 45 thousand cubic meters of snow were removed from the streets—the highest figure in recent days.

Intensive snow removal is planned to continue this evening when the snowfall weakens.

According to forecasters, snowfalls and frosts are again expected in Nizhny Novgorod in the coming work week.
