The Arctic tugboat Captain Ushakov, which sank near the Baltic Plant, is now trapped in the ice of the Neva. In temperatures around -20°C (-4°F), a runner named Timur filmed the vessel and posted the video online.
Footage shows the Arctic tugboat partially submerged in ice near the Baltic Plant in St. Petersburg.
The footage shows that the tugboat, which went to the bottom in August 2025, is half protruding from under the ice cover. While running along the frozen river, Timur comments: «Here is the Baltic Plant, and here is the overturned ship.»
The vessel remains in place due to financial difficulties of its owner — the Yaroslavl Shipbuilding Plant. The enterprise, which has multi-billion ruble debts and accounts blocked by the tax service, cannot find nearly a billion rubles (about $11 million at current rates) for the salvage. Although by order of the captain of the Big Port of St. Petersburg, the tugboat was supposed to be extracted by November 20, the deadline was missed. In response to inquiries about the reasons for the delay, the plant referred to the Ministry of Defense, which was the customer for the vessel.
