Rostov residents protest rare waste collection by EcoCenter

The first month of winter began with a barrage of complaints against the regional waste operator EcoCenter in Rostov and the oblast. Hundreds of addresses in the Don region found themselves in «garbage captivity» during the New Year holidays. After that, the operator officially stated that the reason for the lack of service was weather conditions and appealed for help to the Rostov administration. But the situation has hardly changed.

Rostov residents continue to complain that garbage from containers near residential buildings has not been collected for weeks. Citizens are turning to the editorial office with requests for help, writing complaints, and demanding answers from the operator in its official Telegram channel.

Residents of the Suvorovsky microdistrict in Rostov are already swamped with trash. Waste is literally spilling onto the roadway. According to local resident Natalya, garbage has not been collected since January 15 on Vissaitova Street at numbers 5/11, 6, 8, and on Andreeva Street at numbers 13 and 15. Complaints have also come to the editorial office from residents on Petrenko, Belousova, Ulanskaya, and Platon Klyata streets.

161.RU requested a response from the press service of the company EcoCenter. The regional operator acknowledged the problem, and that same night, the garbage containers were taken away.

— The overflow occurred because heavy special equipment could not access the container site — the roads were not cleared. Letters describing the problem were sent to the administration. Today, collection at this address has been carried out, accounting for the overflow, — explained the waste management company.
Residents of the building at Vissaitova Street, 5, are also complaining. There were problems with garbage both after the New Year holidays and now. Owners were told that the truck cannot approach due to ice.
As a result, the operator decided to move the containers further up the street, but it is inconvenient for the townspeople, and many, out of habit, continue to pile up garbage at the site, just without containers. The company EcoCenter explained that due to the slippery road, the heavy-duty vehicle cannot reach the containers. But the residents of the building did not remain silent.
— It«s not slippery there; passenger cars easily drive in and out. A heavy truck could easily pass, especially since it doesn»t need to go back up. Then they drive to Andreeva, 13, although there, too, they collect only occasionally, — responded a resident of the apartment building to the operator.
Townspeople demanded reductions in their bills. Some even threatened to stop paying for the services.
— Reduce the amount on the bill, since there has been no garbage collection in January. It«s been three weeks already. Why should I pay 700 rubles (about $9) for something that doesn»t exist. In seven years, there have never been problems, and now there are none. I can send you photos every day at four in the morning showing that nothing is preventing access to the bins. Since the 12th, they haven«t been collecting properly, and back then there wasn»t even snow. Cars don«t park there and they always accessed it normally, but since the 12th, some problems started, and it»s not with access, but with the company, — wrote an angry resident of Suvorovsky.
Complaints continue to come from residents of other cities in the region.
— Good afternoon. City of Bela Kalitva, Logovaya Street. I understand that again there will be no waste collection this week? Do we need to write to you every time with requests to take out the trash? Is the road bad again? Well, on the weekend there will be frost and snow, and then the road will definitely be bad, and again you won«t pick up the garbage. Maybe you could start collecting trash at least once a week? The price on the bill has only gone up, but the service has gotten worse. Or should we write to someone else each time? — write angry residents of the region.
— Hello, in Bela Kalitva on Veselaya, Novaya, and Shchadenko streets, garbage has not been collected for two weeks. Solve the problem, — other townspeople appeal in the operator«s channel.
— And have you tried to comply with your obligations for waste removal? We pay such sums, for five months already. We walk, we call, they still don«t put us in the register, but they send bills. And it»s a disgrace... In Kamensk, I last saw a regular truck, and workers were manually pulling bags of garbage out of the containers. With such tariffs, every house should have its own garbage truck, — wrote another resident of the region.
EcoCenter«s Response
The regional operator also published official information about the current situation.
— We see and carefully study all your appeals regarding solid waste collection. We want to explain the current situation. Why do disruptions occur in the collection schedule? Unfortunately, it is not always the regional operator«s fault in violating the schedule. We really are making every effort to work strictly according to the approved schedule, but there are objective reasons: weather conditions — ice and difficult road conditions, inability to access container sites on certain streets, — the company reported. — We are working jointly with district administrations to solve the problem. We are looking for alternative access routes. We are coordinating actions with services responsible for road cleaning. We understand your concern and are doing everything possible to normalize the situation in the near future.
