NGS readers propose ways to tackle Novosibirsk traffic congestion

Every week in the NGS.RU Telegram channel (if you«re not subscribed yet, now is the perfect time to do so) hundreds of posts are published about what»s happening in Novosibirsk and the region. We«ve collected the most interesting ones from the week to show how these seven days went.
Most Commented
Under a post about the authorities devising a way to solve traffic jam problems on difficult sections on the right and left banks, NGS readers left the most comments. Some express dissatisfaction with the situation, others propose their own ideas.
“I«ll let you in on a little secret: 90% of traffic jams in the city are due to poorly tuned traffic lights,” noted Sergey.
“Until they build a multi-level interchange at the intersection with Voinaya (like with Frunze and Gogolya), Ippodromka will be at a standstill,” wrote a reader.
“Traffic jams on the right bank are only because they didn«t design an exit from the bridge to the center. To get there, you have to stand for a long and tedious time at the U-turn near ‘Sportmaster,’ and then manage to change lanes into the flow to the right onto Serebrennikovskaya,” noted Viktor.
“The problem all over the city is uncleared outer lanes. So instead of three or two lanes, we get one lane in each direction. And as a result — cars park on the roadway. Hence traffic jams, accidents, and for sedans, moving around the city is a tough case. Every trip out of the house is a nerve-wracker,” said Inna.
“In Novosibirsk, they need to build two-level bridges. Three hours one way is too much. Yesterday I drove like that from Pervomaysky to the center,” shared a Siberian woman.
“Some of the most useless decisions were made in recent years. Increase throughput? No, let«s block everything with speed bumps. Make a bus stop pocket for public transport? No, they made a ‘bulge’ on the road, narrowing the roadway to 1.5 lanes, which creates difficulties driving near every public transport stop.
About traffic lights and their operating mode, there«s nothing to say — they try something, but it gets worse. A schoolboy would set it up better. It would be better if they did nothing at all. By the way, I»ve noticed a trend that when a traffic light somewhere isn«t working, there are no traffic jams in that place,” added Pavel.
But Novosibirsk resident Matvey Filatov went further and proposed that the city hall build an alternative to the metro in the city. Read more about this in the cards.
Most Discussed
Also, NGS readers actively discussed the budget for roads in the Novosibirsk region. More precisely, its reduction, as expenses were cut from 14 to 7.4 billion rubles (approximately $140 million to $74 million at current rates). And about which roads in the city and region will be repaired, read in the cards.
“Neither with this nor with that budget, roads are as absent as they were,” noted Yelena.
“Well, well. On Krasny Prospekt (between Lenin Square and Frunze), in the very center of the city, there«s such a rut that you can drive without hands, the car is like a tram. I don»t even want to talk about the markings, even the polymer markings have disappeared, not to mention the ones drawn with chalk, judging by their lifespan of a couple of weeks,” complained Vladimir.
“But the transport tax was increased. They argued that the money would go to road infrastructure. And now there«s no money,” noted Maxim.
“I«m embarrassed to ask... They»ve stuck cameras at every intersection, drivers are fined regularly. Where«s the money, Zin?” wondered Marina.
Most Reactions
A post about abandoned cars being sent for disposal gathered the most reactions. Judging by the results, the majority supports such changes.
“Half the courtyard is like that. They just take up space and don«t let the roads be cleaned,” shared Ilya.
“And in mine. As soon as winter comes, it«s like they specifically bring them into the courtyard and abandon them,” supported Yulia.
“Overall correct, but 10 days — isn«t that too little? It turns out that going on a two-week vacation and leaving the car in the courtyard is no longer possible,” noticed Nikita.
“Why for disposal? They could be auctioned off at a reduced price,” proposed a reader.
“And how will they determine if the owner has shown up or not? Maybe I walk past every day and check my car, but don«t drive it. Or some don»t start in the cold and I wait for it to warm up,” inquired a Novosibirsk resident.
“Who do these cars bother... They don«t know what to do anymore, just to harm people. If they»re standing, it means they«re someone»s, and they have owners,” disagreed Galina.
“Courtyards are places of public use, not private property. A garage or parking space is acquired for long-term storage of vehicles,” objected Valeriya.
Most Shared
Most often, NGS readers shared a video of the flooded parking lot at the La Grande residential complex on 1905 Street, 73. The water was pumped out for several days. Some residents didn«t manage to retrieve their cars and have already contacted the police.
And we tell more about the whole situation here.

A few months ago, a baby emperor tamarin was born in the zoo. The mother didn«t look after her baby, so the institution»s staff came to the rescue. The monkey was on artificial feeding and under constant supervision of specialists. Now little Businka is being gradually released to her relatives.
