Meteorologists Warn of Anomalous Frosts in Volgograd

The Volgograd Center for Hydrometeorology has issued an emergency warning for abnormally cold weather from 2 to 7 February 2026, with temperatures expected to be 10–15°C below average.

The Volgograd Center for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (TsGMS) issued an emergency warning on Sunday, 1 February, about abnormally cold weather.
«In the period from 2 to 7 February 2026, a dangerous meteorological phenomenon is expected in the Volgograd Oblast — abnormally cold weather (with average daily air temperatures 10–15°C below the decadal norm),» the document states.
Frosts will begin on the night of Monday, 2 February. Precipitation in the form of snow and wet snow is expected, with light snow during the day. At night, temperatures will range from -12 to -17°C (10 to 1°F), and in northern areas, from -22 to -27°C (-8 to -17°F). During the day, temperatures are forecast to be -6 to -11°C (21 to 12°F), and in the north of the oblast, -14 to -19°C (7 to -2°F). On the evening of 1 February, black ice, ice and frost deposits, and wind up to 20 meters per second are possible.
On 3 February, snow is expected at night and in the morning, in some places heavy. On roads, black ice and snowpack are likely. Night temperatures across the oblast will drop to -12 to -17°C (10 to 1°F), and in the north to -27°C (-17°F). During the day, the thermometer will show -8 to -13°C (18 to 9°F), in some places down to -19°C (-2°F).
The coldest day will be 4 February. At night, the air will cool to -25°C (-13°F), and with clearing, it could drop to -32°C (-26°F). During the day, forecasters promise -13 to -18°C (9 to 0°F), in some areas down to -22°C (-8°F).
In Volgograd, on 2 February, light snow is forecast at night, with no precipitation during the day. Night temperatures will be -16°C (3°F), and daytime temperatures -10°C (14°F).
On 3 February, in the city, heavy snow is expected at night, with precipitation intensity decreasing during the day. At night, the thermometer will show -13°C (9°F), and during the day -11°C (12°F).
In subsequent nights, further cooling to -22°C (-8°F) is possible, and during the day to -16°C (3°F). Then temperatures will begin to gradually rise, and by Friday, 6 February, around -4°C (25°F) is expected during the day.
