Ice rain cuts power to eight villages near Volgograd

Ice rain and gusty winds have caused mass power outages in eight settlements of the Kotovsky district in Volgograd region. District head Oleg Kuzmin reported on the situation in his Telegram channel.

Due to strong wind gusts, ice rain, and snow, wire breaks, damage to supports and insulators have been recorded, leading to temporary power outages in several settlements: the village of Mokraya Olkhovka (partially), the villages of Kryachki, Netkachi, Tarasovo, Doroshevo, Pereshchepnoye, Korostino, Plemmkhoz. Emergency crews are working on site. Additional emergency crews are arriving from neighboring municipalities. For today, connecting power from backup sources in the villages of Korostino and Plemmkhoz is planned.

The most serious damages were recorded on the section between the villages of Mokraya Olkhovka and Pereshchepnoye, where over 20 power line supports were affected. Clearance of access roads is underway to reach them.

Social facilities, including schools, hospitals, and kindergartens, have been temporarily switched to backup power sources. Responsible officials are monitoring the situation around the clock.

Similar power supply issues have arisen in the Dubovsky district. In the village of Gornaya Proleyka, stable power supply has not been restored for the third day.

On the evening of February 1, the governor of Volgograd region, Andrey Bocharov, commented on the situation in the region. He reported that life support services have been put on a special operating mode due to difficult weather conditions.

According to the company «Rosseti Yug», 10 emergency crews consisting of 37 specialists and 13 units of special equipment are involved in eliminating the consequences of the bad weather. In the region, 15 backup power sources with a total capacity of about 9 megawatts have been prepared.

Special control has been established over socially significant and infrastructure facilities. On the roads of the region, about 400 units of equipment are on standby, along with a sufficient supply of anti-icing materials. For drivers on highways, 31 rest areas have been equipped, capable of accommodating over 4,000 people.

Forecasters predict that a sharp cold snap will come to Volgograd region on the night of February 2. Meteorologists have already issued an emergency warning due to expected abnormal frosts.
