'Goat Path': Novosibirsk Residents Struggle on Snowy Kubovaya Street

A local resident has raised concerns about unsafe pedestrian conditions due to snow piles on a street in Novosibirsk, forcing people to walk on the road.

Residents of the Strizhi neighborhood are struggling to use the sidewalk on Kubovaya Street because of snowdrifts. NGS reader Stanislav reported the problems with snow removal. According to the local resident, people are forced to walk on the roadway.

«Only narrow paths lead from the houses to the road. The sidewalk is about 1.5 meters (5 ft) above the road level in some places. This dangerous goat path, from which it is easy to slide under the wheels of cars, is occasionally interrupted. To get back onto it, you have to step out onto the roadway,» Stanislav complained.

Pedestrians are reportedly forced to walk on the road due to the obstructed sidewalk.

Photos sent to the editorial office by the local resident show that the sidewalk on some sections of the street is completely covered with snow.

«Here the snowdrift is more than 1 meter (3.3 ft) high. If you»re pulling a child on a sled, you could slide under the wheels of a car at any moment, and the driver wouldn«t have time to stop,» the resident described the situation.

In response to an NGS inquiry, the press center of the Novosibirsk mayor«s office reported that snow is regularly removed from Kubovaya Street—equipment operates there around the clock.

«During the winter period, round-the-clock duty is organized for the special equipment involved in clearing snow from the roadway and sidewalks. Cleaning of the street and road network in the Tsentralny District of Novosibirsk is carried out by the Municipal State Institution »Road Maintenance Department No. 1« (MGI RMD No. 1) according to schedule. The next cleaning of Kubovaya Street was carried out on 13 and 14 January 2026 and will continue in accordance with the established regulations and work plan,» the response stated.

The mayor«s office clarified that complaints about snow removal on the problematic section had been received previously.
