Forecaster: Spring to arrive early in Nizhny Novgorod

Meteorological spring will begin in the Nizhny Novgorod region ahead of schedule. A severe flood and inundation of significant land areas are expected, said Yevgeny Tishkovets, a specialist at the Fobos weather center.

A steady transition of air temperature above zero is forecast for approximately mid-March in the Nizhny Novgorod region (a week earlier than usual). As Tishkovets noted, if not for the abnormal snowfalls, the process would have started even earlier.

According to preliminary estimates, the spring period is expected to be quite warm with normal precipitation, except for a relatively rainy May. Summer 2026 is forecast to be hotter and drier.

For now, frosty conditions persist in central regions of Russia. According to long-term forecasts, February will be near or below the climatic norm due to an «abnormally cold start.» This week in Nizhny Novgorod, a cold snap to -26°C (-15°F) is expected. Read the forecast in a separate article.
