Drivers in Rostov Region Prepare for Snowfall and Ice

It is expected that over 24 hours the snow cover will increase by 20 centimeters (7.9 inches).
Forecasters are predicting an intense snowfall in the region, which in some areas will be accompanied by a blizzard. Governor Yury Slyusar has already instructed municipal heads to prepare for the bad weather.
In the next 24 hours, up to 20 centimeters (7.9 inches) of snow is expected, with strong ice formation and a slight drop in temperature. On the roads, snowdrifts are likely, and visibility will drop to 1–2 kilometers (0.6–1.2 miles), periodically to 500 meters (0.3 miles).
Heads of cities and districts must ensure round-the-clock duty to monitor the condition of critically important objects, such as heating systems and power lines. The number of emergency teams needs to be increased. Utility services should be ready, and snow removal equipment should be deployed.
The head of the region appealed to residents: «Dear residents, I ask you to be as cautious as possible, avoid using personal transport if possible, so as not to complicate the traffic situation.»
The State Traffic Inspectorate of Rostov Oblast also warned of worsening visibility and the emergence of slippery sections on the roads, calling on drivers and pedestrians to be extra vigilant.
«Reduce speed, keep distance, avoid sudden maneuvers. If you haven»t changed your tires yet – now is the time to do it right away. Winter tires in such weather are not a comfort but a necessity,« the press service of the Don traffic police reported.
