Cyclone brings frost and snow to Petersburg and Moscow

The synoptic situation in the Northwestern and Central regions of Russia on February 2 is developing under the influence of a cyclone. Its periphery is covering St. Petersburg, bringing solid cloud cover and occasional light snow, with a negative temperature deviation from average values of 5-6 degrees here.
Weather forecasts show the cyclone«s influence on temperature and precipitation across central Russia.

In the city itself, the air will warm up only to -8…-10°C (17.6…14°F), in Leningrad Oblast thermometers will drop to -7…-12°C (19.4…10.4°F), and in some areas — to -17°C (1.4°F). The wind will blow from the northeast at a speed of 5-10 m/s. Atmospheric pressure, remaining elevated, will reach 763 mm Hg and continue to slowly decrease.
Moscow is also under the influence of a slow-moving and cold cyclone. Daytime temperatures here will be 10-11 degrees below long-term averages: in the capital, -14…-16°C (6.8…3.2°F) is forecast, in the Moscow region — from -13 to -18°C (8.6…-0.4°F). Occasional light snow will pass in some places.
