But besides all-Russian holidays, Samara residents have their own purely local reasons for pride. We have counted at least 32 more holidays that residents of the region can celebrate when they feel blue. Bet you haven«t even heard of some of them?

In 2014, under Governor Nikolay Merkushkin, Samara parliamentarians passed the law «On Memorable Dates and Holidays of Samara Oblast». Each subsequent governor supplemented this list in their own way. Currently, it includes: Samara Oblast Day, Day of Remembrance for Employees of the Internal Affairs Bodies of Samara Oblast Who Died in the Line of Duty, Day of the Opening of the Provincial Zemstvo Assembly, Day of the Samara Banner, Day of Veterans of Combat Actions, Day of Samara Symbols, Day of Specially Protected Natural Territories in Samara Oblast, Day of Friendship of Peoples, Day of Remembrance of the Military Parade in the City of Kuibyshev in 1941, Day of Trade Unions of Samara Oblast, Day of the Release of the First Il-2 Aircraft in the City of Kuibyshev, Day of the Samara Press, Day of the Gardener, Day of the Bayan.

When compiling the holiday calendar for a Samara resident, we intentionally removed February 10. The day of the terrible fire at the GUVD is a mournful date when families, friends, acquaintances, and colleagues remember the policemen who perished in the terrible fire.
