Yekaterinburg Mother Sentenced for Rocking Infant to Death
The Chkalovsky District Court of Yekaterinburg passed a sentence on 32-year-old Viktoria Vazhenina. She was found guilty of causing death by negligence (Part 1, Article 109 of the Russian Criminal Code). Viktoria accidentally killed her own son.
In August 2025, the mother was at home on Dorozhnaya Street with her newborn. The woman had been drinking and went to put her son to sleep. She was rocking the baby«s crib with the child inside, and one of the crib»s sides was not secured. The baby fell out of the crib onto the floor and hit his head. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and died in the morning.
The court sentenced Viktoria to one year and 10 months of restricted freedom. This was reported by the Sverdlovsk Region prosecutor«s office.
In 2025, a court passed a sentence on another young mother who strangled her two-month-old daughter in Yelansky. Anastasia was given 9 years of imprisonment in a general regime correctional colony. That tragedy occurred on June 25, 2025. The two-month-old girl cried a lot, and Anastasia was angry because she couldn«t calm her daughter. Her husband had gone to work, and then received an SMS from his wife with the words: »I threw the baby on the sofa, I«m a terrible mother, forgive me and goodbye.»
