A 95-kilogram (209-pound) calf was stolen from a livestock farm in the Alexandro-Nevsky district. The head of the agricultural enterprise filed a report with the police, and an employee told him that the animal suddenly fell, and a veterinarian loaded it into his car, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Riazan region.
Preliminarily, the 54-year-old farm veterinarian allegedly devised a way to steal the calf without consequences. The specialist gave it a sleeping pill, and after some time, the animal fell.
“When asked why the calf fell motionless, he reported that the animal had died. After dragging the calf out like a corpse, the man loaded it into his car and took it to his own farm, where he raised cattle,” police said.
This is the version the veterinarian told his superiors: that he was the first to see the calf fall, and he carried its body outside, supposedly to not endanger the entire herd. This seemed strange to the farm manager, and he contacted the police.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the veterinarian expected that in a large enterprise, they would «not be very concerned» about the loss of one calf, and that it would be difficult to find it at his homestead.
The veterinarian was detained, and the calf was returned to the farm. Now, the issue of initiating a criminal case under the article «Theft» is being decided.
