A mother in Yekaterinburg has been convicted after her newborn son died while she was under the influence of alcohol. The Chkalovsky District Court found her guilty of causing death by negligence.

The Chkalovsky District Court in Yekaterinburg found 32-year-old Victoria Vazhenina guilty of causing death by negligence (Part 1 of Article 109 of the Russian Criminal Code). The woman accidentally caused the death of her newborn son.
The incident occurred in August 2025 in a residential building on Dorozhnaya Street. While intoxicated, the mother was rocking the baby by shaking the crib. One of the crib«s sides was not secured, causing the infant to fall to the floor and hit his head. The resulting traumatic brain injury proved fatal, and the child died the next morning.
The court sentenced Victoria Vazhenina to one year and ten months of restricted freedom. This information was confirmed by the prosecutor«s office of Sverdlovsk Oblast.
In the same year, 2025, the court sentenced another young mother from Yelansky — Anastasia, who strangled her two-month-old daughter. She was sentenced to nine years in a general regime correctional colony. The tragedy occurred on June 25, 2025. According to the investigation, the woman could not cope with the constant crying of the child and committed the crime in a fit of anger. After that, she sent her husband an SMS with the words: «I threw the baby on the sofa, I»m a terrible mother, forgive me and goodbye.«
