Arkhangelsk mother accused of torturing daughter for two years
A resident of Arkhangelsk is accused of torturing her 8-year-old daughter. This went on for two years. The girl was taken from the family, and the mother faces a real prison term.
«The woman, for a long time, from September 2023 to June 2025, while in the Varavino-Faktoriya district of Arkhangelsk at the family»s residence, systematically inflicted beatings and committed other violent acts against her 8-year-old daughter,« — the regional prosecutor»s office said.
The 42-year-old Arkhangelsk resident is charged under paragraph «g» of part 2 of Article 117 of the Russian Criminal Code (torture of a minor), and Article 156 (failure to fulfill parental duties combined with cruel treatment of a minor).
The child was taken from the family and placed in a state social institution. The prosecutor has filed a lawsuit for 500,000 rubles (approximately $5,500 at current rates) in compensation for moral damage caused to the girl.
The woman could be deprived of freedom for up to seven years for torture. For failure to fulfill parental duties, she faces a fine of up to 100,000 rubles (about $1,100 at current rates) or compulsory, corrective, or forced labor.
A resident of the village of Leshchevo is also accused of torturing her minor stepdaughter. According to the investigation, the 47-year-old stepmother did not let the girl sleep and systematically beat the child.
