On the morning of January 30, the heavy snowfall in Perm that had lasted since yesterday evening ended. With the arrival of the weather system, the city has warmed up noticeably — according to various data, the thermometer has now risen to -5…-7 °C (23…19 °F). Doctor of Geographical Sciences Andrey Shikhov told whether the city will be snowed in over the weekend and whether the warming will continue.

Saturday, January 31

In the Telegram channel ‘Dangerous Natural Phenomena of Perm Krai,’ Andrey Shikhov writes that on the night before Saturday, the ridge of the Scandinavian anticyclone will push the snowfall zone to the southern borders of Prikamye (the Perm region). As a result, very cold air will shift to the north of the region — in the morning it will cool down to -25…-30 °C (-13…-22 °F), and in the far north — to -35 °C (-31 °F). Meanwhile, at the southern borders of the krai, it will be -5…-10 °C (23…14 °F), and snowfall will continue all day — up to 5-8 millimeters of precipitation may fall over 24 hours.

In Perm, there will be light snow at night, and no precipitation is expected during the day. The air temperature, both at night and during the day, will be -15…-18 °C (5…0 °F).

Sunday, February 1

On the night of February 1, snowfall may start again in Perm. It will be much less intense than on the night of January 30, when the city was buried in snow, but it will last a long time. According to Andrey Shikhov«s forecast, 5-6 millimeters of precipitation will fall, and the northeast wind will also strengthen.

‘During the day, light or moderate snow is expected,’ the scientist clarified to 59.RU. ‘The wind will strengthen to 10 meters per second in gusts.’

Both at night and during the day, the thermometer will remain at -15…-18 °C (5…0 °F), as on Saturday.

Earlier, our colleagues told how to predict the weather for the year based on January folk signs — for example, snowfall on January 29 foretells a green spring for Perm residents.
