Peak frost hits Trans-Urals weekend weather forecast

A very cold weekend is expected in the Trans-Urals region.
A severe cold snap is expected in the Kurgan region this weekend. According to the forecast by the Hydrometcenter of Russia (Hydrometeorological Center of Russia), on the night from Friday to Saturday, January 24, thermometers will show -38 degrees Celsius (-36°F). The following night will see a slight warming to -36 degrees Celsius (-33°F). Daytime temperatures on Saturday and Sunday are expected to range from -27 to -25 degrees Celsius (-17 to -13°F).

Meanwhile, the Kurgan Center for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (TsGMS) warns of possible frosts on the weekend down to -42 degrees Celsius (-44°F). Kurgan weather forecasters say no snow is expected on these days, and the wind will be weak and unsteady.

Ilya Vinshtein, the author of the project «Weather 45 — weather in Kurgan», provided the minimum temperatures at stations in the Kurgan region on the night and morning of January 23. The lowest temperature was recorded in Dalmatovo: -39.9 degrees Celsius (-40°F), while in Kurgan it was -35.6 °C (-32°F).
