Severe frosts will persist in the Samara region for several days. Temperatures will only start to rise by the middle of next week.

According to forecasts from the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, «On the night of Wednesday, January 28, it will be -17°C (1°F). During the day, thermometers will rise to -9°C (16°F). On the night of Thursday, January 29, -12°C (10°F) is expected. During the day — around -6°C (21°F). Snow will fall.»

According to this source, until January 28, daytime temperatures in the Samara region will remain below -15°C (5°F).

The Siberian anticyclone brought the cold to the region on Thursday, January 22. On the night of Friday, January 23, thermometers dropped to -20°C (-4°F) and below. The frosts will intensify even more. Due to the severe cooling, the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) declared an orange danger level. In anticipation of the temperature drop outside, the Samara branch of Rospotrebnadzor (the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing) explained what the temperature should be in social institutions.

According to meteorologists« characterization of January, in the region during the first month of winter, colds down to -40°C (-40°F) and precipitation up to half a meter (approximately 20 inches) are possible.
