Knee-deep snowdrifts! Record snowfall hits Ryazan Oblast

The Ryazan Hydrometeorological Center reported the deepest snow in Tuma and the least in Pavelets.
In Ryazan Oblast, abnormally high snowdrifts were recorded overnight. The snowfall began on the morning of 29 January and did not stop throughout the night, and an emergency warning due to precipitation remains in effect.
According to the Ryazan Hydrometeorological Center, the maximum snowdrift height was recorded in the work settlement of Tuma — 73 centimeters (29 inches).
In Yelatma, the snow cover reached 56 centimeters (22 inches); in Ryazan, 46 centimeters (18 inches); in Ryazhsk, 41 centimeters (16 inches); in Sasovo, 38 centimeters (15 inches); and in Pavelets, 36 centimeters (14 inches).
Since 27 January, the communal services of Ryazan Oblast have been switched to round-the-clock operation. Even at the beginning of the week, snowdrift heights in the region exceeded the norm, so a spring flood is not ruled out.
In the meantime, residents of Ryazan are being asked to avoid long trips and observe traffic rules.
